Nestled in the heart of Colorado's northern plains, Eaton is a charming statutory town in Weld County with a rich history and a promising future. Just over twenty miles east of Fort Collins, Eaton has grown from a modest settlement to a thriving community of nearly 6,000 residents as of the 2020 Census. This remarkable 32.92% population increase since 2010 is a testament to the town's appeal and potential.

A Glimpse into Eaton's Past

Eaton owes its name and much of its prosperity to Benjamin Harrison Eaton, a pioneering figure in the realm of irrigation. His visionary efforts in the late 19th century transformed the arid prairies east of Colorado's Front Range into fertile farmland. Today, Eaton's agricultural landscape continues to benefit from the irrigation systems he and his contemporaries established.

The town's official incorporation on October 27, 1892, was a community-driven effort led by 36 residents, including Eaton himself. Initially named Eatonton to avoid confusion with Easton in El Paso County, the name was later shortened to Eaton. The first settlers arrived in 1880, primarily working on irrigation projects between Eaton and Greeley, laying the foundation for a community that would flourish for generations.

Eaton's geographical coordinates, 40°31′46″N 104°42′47″W, place it along the Denver-Cheyenne mainline of the Union Pacific Railroad and U.S. Route 85, just 7 miles north of Greeley. Eaton is conveniently located within close proximity to several key cities:
